Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Indian origin Rishi Sunak said that Rahul Dravid was one of his favorite cricketers.
Sunak was a guest on the BBC TMS lunchtime programme, and Dravid made a mention when asked what he thought of England and Australia’s approach to keeper strategy at Lord’s. On their swing, a duck like Dravid was the question when Sunak laughed and said, “Rahul Dravid is one of my really favorite players. I liked his style. His attitude and his personality.”
Then he went on to talk about the time he saw Sachin Tendulkar Butt living in India.
I was in India in 2008 when the terrorist attack happened. The England cricket team was gone. You’ve gone to a friend’s wedding. But England decided to go back and hold a test in Chennai. I was there. Tendulkar scored huge runs chasing, unfortunately we lost and India won. “It was good to see him batting,” Sunak said.
“I grew up watching Robin Smith, the Hampshire superstar, Malcolm Marshall… I was fortunate enough to watch them all.”
When asked if he was as passionate about cricket as the Indian fans are, Sunak chuckled before saying, “I can express it less in this job. Before I had this job, I would. I am an avid sports fan. When England got my First wicket here (at Lourdes), I would stand up and realize ‘Oh my God’…and I sat down.”
