The state Department of Transportation said in its initial identification report that the accident did not occur due to tire failure, tire wear and speeding. The report stated that the regional transportation official at the accident site did not find any rubber pieces for the tires, which were found on the aforementioned bus tires on the road.

On the issue of excessive speed, the report stated that the bus departed from the Karanga Lad intersection at Samrodi Maharaj at 11:08 pm and arrived at the scene of the accident at around 1:32 am.

The report indicates that the bus covered a distance of 152 km in 144 minutes, and therefore it was not possible to overtake it.
Shekhar Chani IAS, who is acting as Transport Commissioner, confirmed to the Sunday Express about the findings of the initial report.

“The bus was not in trouble as per preliminary findings. However, how the accident occurred and how it was neglected is part of the police investigation.

The transportation report stated that the bus collided with a 4-foot-high steel pole, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, and the bus collided again with a road diver, which led to the destruction of the diesel fuel tank of the bus. This may have led to the fire. According to the RTO, the bus is three years and five months old.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), which built the highway, claimed that while the accident was unfortunate, the design of the highway was not to blame. “We are not the regulatory authority. We are the Infrastructure Development Authority. However, we provide all necessary assistance to other authorities – State Highway Police, RTO. Samruddhi Mahamarg has Rapid Response Vehicles. We got to the place in just five minutes after the control room got a call from the police. Seven fire engines were at the site to put out the fire. Plus five ambulances were readily available. We regret that we could not save all lives. But we are providing all the necessary assistance,” said Sanjay Yadav, Joint Managing Director (II) at MSRDC.

When asked about the issue of highway hypnosis in Samruddhi Mahamarg which is also one of the major causes of accidents in the earlier cases, Yadav replied, “We have linked up with an NGO that has expertise in highway safety measures. The NGO suggested that some hooligans be put on The highway which has been done in almost all parts. Moreover, public address systems have been installed at entry points on the highway to alert drivers not to exceed speed and to drive with caution.”
