The long wait is over as UCF is set to become a Big 12 school. It is joining the conference along with three other institutions: BYU, Cincinnati, and Houston. This is the culmination of a realignment movement that began with the departure of Oklahoma and Texas from the Big 12.

In a move to balance the missing heavyweight, the conference invited UCF and three other institutions to join its ranks. UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston have reached an agreement with the American Athletic Conference to phase out the conference by July 2023.

Along with the other new members, UCF will appear at Big 12 Media Days 2023 for the first time. The event will be attended by coach Jos Malzahn, accompanied by five players: Javon Becker, Ricky Barber, John Rhys Plumley, Josh Siliskar and Lukahi Powell.

UCF’s Big 12 schedule

The Knights will play Big 12 opponents during the regular season for the first time this season. Their first conference meeting will be against Kansas State on September 23. Taking on the current champions in the conference is a fitting way to welcome the Knights to Big 12 football competition.

The immediate task for the team will be to prove that it deserves its place in the conference. At Kansas State, you experience the best the Big 12 has to offer.

Beyond that, the Knights will host Baylor on September 30th. Playing in front of their home fans would give them an advantage they would miss against Kansas State.

They’ll be on the road for their next two games: a trip to Kansas and another to take on future Southeastern Conference member Oklahoma. Matches are scheduled for October 7 and 21. And for the rest of the regular season, matches will alternate between home and away matches.

They will return home to West Virginia on Oct. 28. They will then travel to face Cincinnati on November 4, and return home to face Oklahoma State on November 11. Their next game would see them take Texas Tech away on November 18. They will return home to finish their regular season against fellow new school Houston on November 25.
