Boldana Bus Accident: While giving instructions to provide assistance to the accident victims, CM Shinde directed officials to provide immediate medical treatment to the injured at government expense.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 5,000 to each of the relatives of 26 people who died in a horrific bus accident at Samrudhi Mahamarg in Buldana. He added that the government will study safety measures on the newly opened highway as many accidents have been reported recently.

Expressing his condolences, CM Shinde said News 18 5 lakh rupees will be given as an ex gratia from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Once he had the information about the early morning incident, he said, he called the collector, the Boldana Superintendent of Police, and the Inspector General by phone and assessed the situation.

While giving instructions to provide assistance to the accident victims, the prime minister also directed officials to provide immediate medical treatment to the injured at government expense.

Buldhana SP Sunil Kadasne said 26 passengers of the bus were charred to death after the vehicle caught fire on Samruddhi Highway. He informed that the private travel bus was on its way from Nagpur to Pune, with 33 people on board, when it hit a barrier around 1.30 am near Sindkhedraja in Buldhana district.

Kadasny said that according to preliminary information, a bus tire burst and the car hit a pole, hit a divider and caught fire. He added that the remaining seven passengers have been taken to a nearby hospital and are doing well.

CM Shinde, who is likely to visit the accident site, said the government will look into safety measures at Samruddhi Mahamarg as several accidents have been reported on the road recently.

An 80 km stretch of Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, also known as Samruddhi Mahamarg, was inaugurated by CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on May 26. Officially named ‘Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg’, the 701 kilometer-long highway provides seamless connectivity between Mumbai and Nagpur. The opened section of highway between Shirdi and Parvir is located near Nashik.

On the same Friday, four people died in an accident involving three cars in Boldana. “A bus had a flat tire and was stranded in the middle of the road. The driver of another bus stopped his car and was heading toward the site to help with repairs. A truck coming from behind smashed into one of the buses and hit the driver as he was offering assistance,” a police official said.

The driver died instantly. A passenger on a bus that was standing on the road also died. The truck driver and the cleaner were also killed. “A case has been registered and investigation is ongoing.
