The officer said that a home guard from the Nili Police Station came looking for Nath when he did not show up for duty in the morning and found the body hanging from the balcony of the building.
A police officer said on Saturday that a policeman was found hanging from the ceiling of his official residence in Morgaon district of Assam state. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Soni Nath, who was posted at Nili Police Station.
The officer said that a house guard from the same police station came looking for Nath when he did not show up for work in the morning and found the body hanging on the balcony of the building. He said he was suspected of having committed suicide on Friday night.
Nath hails from Helakandi and joined the service three months ago. The cause of the suspected suicide is not yet clear, the officer said, adding that further investigations are underway.
