Nathan Lyon who came to bat with a significant calf strain during Australia’s second innings in the Lord’s Test against England is likely to miss the rest of the Ashes, according to captain Pat Cummins.

Asked during a post-game interview whether Lyon was done with the series, Cummins said: “I wasn’t particularly happy but he was very eager to get out there. He did a great job. I imagine he’s (off the series).”

Lyon sustained the injury on Thursday while running to catch a fly ball in the outfield during day two of the second Ashes test at Lord’s. He lifted and grabbed his calf. He needed help to slowly make his way back to the ward. Also on Saturday, he seemed to be in a lot of pain as he rambled across the field completing a single but still chose to continue.

Lyon was eventually dismissed for 4 and received a standing ovation from the Australian players and crowd as he finished as world Test champions on 279 runs, taking a 371-run lead.

“I’ve had talks since this happened with our medical staff,” Lyon told reporters at the stumps on Saturday. I knew the risks. But I will do anything for this team.

Meanwhile, Australia won an action-packed second Ashes Test at Lord’s on Sunday by 43 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-Test series, despite an impressive innings of 155 from England captain Ben Stokes.

Stokes looked excited after the controversial squirm of teammate Jonny Bairstow and began smashing sixes and fours around the floor. But he eventually skated wicket-keeper Alex Carey, and the Australian fast bowlers sealed England’s last three wickets to seal victory.
