According to Diario AS, Real Madrid is expecting big financial offers from Saudi clubs for Ferland Mendy. While the Frenchman has been a regular fixture for Los Blancos since his arrival in 2019, he is untouchable.
With the arrival of Fran Garcia, Mendy could find himself sliding further down the pecking order. Apart from Garcia, the likes of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Nacho Fernandez can play as left-backs.
Mendy is contracted until 2025. His season was plagued by injuries last season, which saw him only make 28 appearances across competitions. Manager Carlo Ancelotti said of the player’s future:
“I want him to stay; he has shown defensive solidity at a high level, and now that he’s recovered, he’ll be important again because he is.”
El Nacional reports that Newcastle United have recently rejected an offer by Real Madrid to buy Mendy. The 28-year-old made 133 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists.
AS reports that Mendy has a €250m release clause. It can be sold if a suitable offer arrives.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is a wanted man. Brazil is looking for a new coach after Tite was sacked after Silekaus were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
Ramon Menezes is in charge of the team on an interim basis. Los Blancos want Ancelotti to take over next. However, the Italian wants to conclude his contract with the Spanish club, which will expire in 2024.
Brazilian Football Confederation President Edinaldo Rodriguez recently said (via Indian Express):
“In that case (waiting until 2024) it wouldn’t be a decision I would make myself, I would have to listen and discuss with our board and with the players, because they need to be heard. The decision has to be in sync with what the players think. So that’s something we have to discuss in the future “.
Rodriguez added:
“But we have a clear goal (to hire Ancelotti), and we are pursuing that goal. I will stay in Spain until June 18, and we have two agreed meetings. I cannot say publicly that the matter is with Ancelotti himself, but we hope to return to Brazil with a clearer message about him.”
Ancelotti in his second stint as Real Madrid coach. He has also managed the likes of AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
