The accident occurred at 1:45 a.m. on a slippery road near a bare bridge on the Western Highway Express

Police said two people were killed when two buses belonging to the Perihan Mumbai Electricity and Transport Company (BEST) collided and then one of them collided with a rickshaw in Mumbai on Sunday.

The accident happened at 1.45am on a slippery road near a bare bridge on the Western Express Highway, they said. Mumbai has been hit by rains for the past week, which has made the roads slippery.

An official from Vanrai Police Station said both the best buses were heading to Ghatkopar depot from Poisar depot when the driver of the vehicle while moving forward applied the brakes. The official said the bus driver behind her also used the brakes, but as the road was slippery due to the rain, she slipped and hit the bus in front of her and later an auto rickshaw. He said two of the occupants of the carriage were seriously injured.

The official said the two passengers, Johnny Sankram (42) and Sujata Panchaki (38), were taken by police to different hospitals where they were pronounced dead.

He said that the motorized rickshaw driver sustained minor injuries to his left cheek. “Based on initial information, we have arrested the driver of the bus (which was in front) and booked him under Section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (causing death by negligence). The accident occurred due to slippery road. We are conducting further investigations into the matter,” he added. .
