For the first time in the state, a gas-based cremation house for dead animals will soon be constructed in Valsad Municipality in Valsad District at a cost of Rs 74,000.

Currently, the dead animals are buried at the solid waste disposal site at Vapi Nagar Palika in Chandor district. On average, 10 cattle are buried in a month within sight of solid waste, according to Shailesh Patel, chief health inspector at Vapi Nagar Palika. However, he added that with each passing day, an issue with space is being seen. He said: “The remains are found at the new burial.”

The case has been brought to the attention of Fabi Nagar Palika and Chairman Kashmirah Shah. Subsequently, a proposal was put forward for a new cremation house for animals. The governing body, along with the administrative officials, calculated the cost of the project.

“With grants by the state and central government, a new cremation house will be constructed for animals. We passed the proposal in the general board meeting of Nagar Palika. We issued a tender and it was passed and the contract was handed over to a Pune based agency. Vapi Nagar Palika Chairman Kashmira Shah said, “We have Work has begun and will be completed in the next two months.

Health Department Chief Fabi Nagar Palika, Suresh Patil, said, “The new crematorium will be near the crematorium in Chandor. It will have two gas-based rooms – one for small animals like stray dogs, pigs and goats and the other for a large room for livestock (buffalo and cows). We asked GSPCL(Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited) to supply gas for cremation of animals.They agreed to supply for free.They did the same for cremation houses for humans.The distance between domestic animals coming for cremation and humans is about 150m.GSPCL authorities agreed to install gas line.
