The incident happened late Saturday night when the couple’s 14-year-old daughter was sleeping in one of the rooms of their house in MOIL Colony in Sadar district.
Police said on Monday that a 50-year-old man killed his wife of 37 years before committing suicide at their home in Nagpur, Maharashtra state.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the man suspected his wife, an employee of the state-run Interior Ministry, of having an extramarital affair.
The incident happened late Saturday night when the couple’s 14-year-old daughter was sleeping in one of the rooms of their house in MOIL Colony in Sadar district.
A police official said the couple used to fight frequently because the man suspected his wife of being faithful.
“During a heated argument, he attacked his wife with a hammer. The hit to the head killed the woman instantly. The man hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a rope,” the official said.
