An official said a tiger mauled a woman to death in Sukhedang district here in Uttarakhand on Sunday.
The district administration official said the incident was reported from Dora village and the dead man was Chandravati.
He said the leopard attacked some women who were on their way to the forest to collect fodder for their livestock.
Chandravati was dragged away by the tiger, the official said, adding that the other women ran away and informed the villagers.
He said after a search, her body was found near the woods. Upon receiving the information, he said, a team from the Forestry Department arrived at the spot.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dami expressed sorrow over the incident and instructed the district administration to extend all possible assistance to the victim’s family.
The official said Chandravati was survived by two sons and many daughters.
