Vikramjit Singh’s fiery first century and Wesley Parisi’s 97 helped the Netherlands keep their 2023 World Cup qualification hopes alive, with a 74-run victory via DLS method against Oman, here on Monday.

Singh’s 110 off 109 balls and Barresi’s veteran fast 65-ball 97 powered Holland to a giant 362 for seven off 48 balls.

In reply, Ayan Khan (105 of 92) led Oman’s response, but his efforts were in vain.

Oman remained winless in the Super 6 stage of the World Cup qualifiers, losing for the fourth time in a row.

The race for second place in the qualifiers is set to wind down, though, with the Netherlands asking Zimbabwe to lose to Scotland. The Dutch also need to win their final game to stand any chance of success.

Singh and Max O’Dowd (35) both started in the opening match to bat, including sitting out in the rain that shortened the match to 48 runs a side.

The duo’s partnership of 117 runs off 103 balls was brought on before O’Dowd was cleaned up by Ayaan.

Singh reached his maiden ODI century off 102 balls before eventually slumping, holed up at midday. 11 times sixty-four.

Having scored 67 and 67 not out in his last two matches, Scott Edwards (4) was caught by Kaleemullah as Muhammad Nadeem claimed his second wicket.

With the Netherlands needing to improve their net run rate, Pas de Lade managed to outpace his team
scoring, making a quick 39 off 19 balls with five fours and one six.

Having hit a half-century off his 43 balls, the 39-year-old Parisi looked poised for his second ODI ton but missed it by a hair. His 97 of 65 balls included 10 balls and three sixes.

In fact, Barresi was the first of three wickets in many fights with Oman stepping up to the fight. Bilal Khan took 3/75 off his 10 overs while Muhammad Nadeem gave 36 from four overs for two wickets. Fayaz Butt and Ayan took one wicket each.

In pursuit of what would have been their record successful chase, Oman lost their regular wicket with Jatinder Singh being run out for 17 before team mate Kashyap Prajapati left for 25.

After Muhammad Nadeem was dismissed by Aryan Dutt for 16, Ayan and Shoaib Khan rebuilt, putting on 112 for the fifth wicket, but Oman fell well short of the required run rate.

Ayan reached his hundreds off 84 balls after taking advantage of several slices of luck to get there. he
He was dropped three times early on. The all-rounder was fighting for his side when bad light prematurely ended the game.

Oman could only manage 246 for six of his 44 overs with Dutt returning with an impressive score of 10-0-31-3 and Ryan Klein taking 2/34 from his nine overs.

The Netherlands now face an anxious wait to see if Zimbabwe beat Scotland on Tuesday.

Next, the Dutch meet Scotland on Thursday.

Zimbabwe win one away

Hosts Zimbabwe can confirm their place for the World Cup in India with a win over Scotland in Bulawayo.

Sri Lanka, top of the tables from the Super Six category, qualified for the tournament on Sunday and Chevron are second, two points behind.

Zimbabwe’s biggest rivals are Scotland, who are in third place with four points and also have an extra game to play.

In Harare, Ireland will meet Nepal to decide who finish seventh, the latter hoping to achieve their best previous qualifying finish of eighth.
