Are the Fortnite July 4 event and Summer Escape event the same? Explained

Season 3 of Fortnite Chapter 4 saw the introduction of the Summer Escape event. Every year Epic Games delivers a major update with tons of summer items, skins, locations and then goes on vacation. Summer escape is this update. Given that this event officially started on July 4th, players are wondering if the rumored July 4th event is the same as the Summer Escape event.
These two events are the same thing, though it’s a bit of a coincidence that the weekly update happened on July 4th since it was a Tuesday. That’s what they added at their Summer Escape event on the 4th of July.

What does the Fortnite Summer Escape event include?
The Summer Escape event in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 is the annual summer event. It is also the first appearance of Purradise Meowscles.
Epic Games dropped a lot of challenges with this update and gave players plenty to do during their annual vacation:
- Deals 50 damage to wildlife
- Catch 3 fish in one match
- More than 200 players
- Tame wolves or pigs in two different pet games
- Destroy 7 opponents with the Flare Gun
- Eliminate 7 opponents
- Destroy 10 trees
- Use the launch pad at Sunswoon Lagoon
- Travel 100 meters gliding
- Deals 200 damage to opponents while sliding / crouching
- Destroy 40 objects while driving
- Get 200 shields
- Collect apple, banana and coconut (not necessarily in the same match)
- Report to Purradise Meowscles
- Cloak within 30 seconds of breaking through the door
- Deals 200 damage to opponents from above
- Swimming within five seconds of parachute jumping
- Slide 50 meters into Sun Son Lake
- Deal 150 damage to opponents with explosive weapons
- Deals 100 damage to enemy players within 45 seconds of swimming
- Swimming 75 meters at Sunswoon Lagoon
- Eat 5 scoops of ice cream
- Break 10 barrels in a burst or slap
- Eliminate an opponent while under the influence of a frozen or hot ice cream cone
- Restores 200 health
- Search 7 chests
- Wildlife ride to Sun Son Lake
- Light a campfire
- Emote by the lit campfire
- Fly 100 meters in the air in a car
- 30 buildings destroyed
- Collect 4 fireflies
- Light 3 flames
- Sprint 200 meters while in a slap
- Collect rare or better weapons three times
You can head to Sunswoon Lagoon, a landmark located just outside Creeky Complex, for many of these quests. They offer free rewards as well as a lot of experience points in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 XP:

- Return of Tracy Bling
- Blossom Drop Contrail
- Emote toasted coconut
- Bugsy Glider
- Ax ax artifact
- Starry Sea Scrolls

Completing each mission rewards 30,000 XP, in addition to these rewards at various completion stages. All Fortnite missions posted at 9 AM EST.
