Barcelona is said to be interested in signing the €20m-rated Tijjani Reijnders, amidst the player’s interest from a group of European heavyweights.

The Catalan giants have their sights set on strengthening their midfield as the summer transfer season heats up, with players such as Martin Zubemendi and Joshua Kimmich linked.

However, Sport (via Barca Universal) has confirmed that another contender has appeared on the Blaugrana’s radar in AZ midfielder Alkmaar Tijjani Reijnders.

According to the report, the Spanish league champions have shown interest in the Dutch player. However, the hype around his transfer does not seem to favor Barcelona as he is allegedly headed to Milan in a deal worth €20m. Reijnders shone in the recently concluded season, scoring three goals and seven assists in 34 Eredivisie matches.

Barcelona’s quest for a more wallet-friendly replacement for released club legend Sergio Busquets has not been easy. According to the report, the Dutchman’s salary demands will not be a stumbling block for Barcelona. However, it is the huge transfer fee that will cause concern.

Fortunately for Milan, their coffers are well stocked thanks to their big earnings from Sandro Tonali’s move to Newcastle United. They now look more likely to seal the deal for Reijnders, as Barcelona continue to struggle with financial difficulties.

Barcelona sealed the deal for defender Ingo Martinez on a free transfer

The Blaugrana confirmed the signing of veteran defender Ingo Martinez on a free transfer on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old has left Athletic Club, signing a two-year deal with the Catalan giants. This will bolster their defensive ranks along with players like Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Jules Conde and Eric Garcia.

Despite Barcelona unsuccessfully trying to secure Martinez’s services last summer over a fee dispute with Athletic, they have now got their man on a free transfer.

Athletic took a gamble, keeping the defender in hopes of signing an extension. However, according to ESPN, Martinez’s mind was set on leaving. Reports from the outlet indicated a verbal agreement between Martinez and Barcelona, with the latter finally securing his signature after his contract with Athletic expired.

The move comes in the wake of an exceptional season for Barcelona’s defense, which was instrumental in snatching its first La Liga title with 26 clean sheets.

Inigo Martinez only played 15 league games last season and could be used as a back-up option for Xavi Hernandez’s backline.
