Bombay High on Wednesday granted permission to former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Regional Director Sameer Wankidi to amend his claim against the CBI FIR in the bribery case involving a cruise ship drug seizure, to add reason that the alleged bribe taker should be with the bribe taker.
The FIR has been recorded by the CBI against Wankhede and others for allegedly attempting to extort bribes from actor Shah Rukh Khan for not implicating his son Aryan Khan in the 2021 Cordelia drug arrest case.
Wankidi claimed that according to Section 7 of the amended Prevention of Corruption Act, the bribe-taker should also be prosecuted.
Another reason Wankhede sought an amendment was that under Section 17A of the PC Act, the penalty NCB obtained along with the complaint is not appropriate because they do not have the power.
He also said that Section 13 of the PC Law lists “disproportionate assets” as an offense, but CBI did not charge Wankidi with Section 17 of the PC Law.
The court allowed Wankhede to amend the petition and extended until July 20 his temporary protection from coercive measures.
