Paul George has been linked several times with the New York Knicks this off-season. However, the latest NBA rumors indicate that the Knicks rejected the idea of acquiring George from the Los Angeles Clippers.

ESPN and MSG Network analyst Alan Hahn said on a recent episode of the Bart & Hahn podcast with Bart Scott that the Knicks aren’t willing to give up a lot of assets to George. The Clippers star is entering what could be the final year of his current contract, which means his value isn’t as high as it used to be.

Hahn added that the two teams continued to discuss the deal until the Knicks pulled out of a potential deal after George wanted a contract extension.

“They had the opportunity to get George’s urine,” Hahn said. “They said it’s too expensive. They don’t want to do it. They actually backed it up. They talked to the Clippers; the Clippers gave the cost.”

Then Paul George said, ‘But I want an extension.’ And they said, ‘We don’t do that.’ And they went away. So Paul George is off the table. As far as he goes now, he’s off the table.”

George was great for the Los Angeles Clippers whenever he was healthy. The Clippers reached the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 2021, with George as the top star while Kawhi Leonard was injured.

The 33-year-old forward played 31 games in the 2021-22 season as the Clippers failed to make the playoffs. He bounced back last season with another All-Star campaign but missed the latter part of the regular season with a knee injury. He ended up missing the Clippers’ first-round game against the Phoenix Suns.

In his recent appearance on the FnA Podcast with Kevin Figures and Adam Osland, insider Howard Beck said the Los Angeles Clippers are clearly frustrated with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Beck also said that George will be available at the right price.

“I’d been hearing things that suggested Paul George was playing, and everything since then has proven that to be true,” Beck said.

“I think he’s playing… They’re not trying to abandon it, but they’re trying to pivot, and they have a widespread frustration with the way this era has gone.”

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Zack Lowe reported that the Los Angeles Clippers remain open to continuing the partnership between Kawhi Leonard and George. However, the franchise isn’t willing to give both stars a stretch so easily due to their injury history.
