More than 6,300 students secured admission into various colleges by the end of the second day of the second round of the Central Admission Process (CAP) of the First Year Junior College (FYJC) in Pune.

By Tuesday evening, a total of 6,398 students had been accepted into round two, which began on June 27. Wednesday is the last day to secure admission according to the allotted seats in Round 2 at the 326 participating colleges.

College authorities said they have made arrangements to ensure a smooth admissions process. “The admissions process, unlike what happened with Covid, is in hybrid mode,” said Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, deputy principal of Ferguson College. “Seats have been allocated online and documents will be checked at the college,” he said.

Ferguson College held 254 of the 360 ​​seats in the arts department and 650 of the 840 seats in the sciences department by Tuesday noon. “More than 90 per cent of admissions to our college will be completed in this round,” said Dr VN Dhivar, Deputy Principal Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC). “A few seats will remain vacant and admissions may be completed in the third round,” he said.

The BMCC filled 426 of the 480 assisted-scholarship seats and 91 of the 121 non-awarding seats.
Science has been the most popular stream so far with 17,398 students opting in to the stream, according to official data.

Commerce is second with 13,034 students while arts students have an enrollment of 3,542 as of Tuesday evening.

In the first round of CAP, 23,272 students gained admission into colleges under the jurisdiction of Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. The first round ended on 26 June with 66,681 vacant seats, which are now being filled in the second round.

A total of 34,732 students have been admitted so far against a total of 1,14,510 students.
