Karnataka on Wednesday demanded immediate resumption of the Open Market-Domestic Sale (OMSS-D) scheme for rice and wheat in the states. The center had halted the scheme on June 13 for all but the northeastern states, mountain states, and those facing law and order situations and natural disasters.
According to sources, the request was put forward by Karnataka Food Minister KH Muniyappa at the National Conference of Food Ministers of States and Union Territories organized under the chairmanship of Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal.
Muniyappa has urged the Federal Food Minister and Food Corporation of India (FCI) to restart the OMSS scheme for rice and wheat in the state immediately.
“With OMSS-D suddenly halted, we had to choose cash transfer instead of food grains for the next two months,” Muniyappa told the conference.
In response to the request of Karnataka Food Minister, Goyal learned that he had said that the center had stopped the states scheme to control inflation.
