the actor Vidya Balan She admitted that she had a crisis of faith when many projects were taken away from her early in her career. Vidya was branded a ‘black cat’ by the southern film industries when a film she had signed with Mohanlal was shelved. In quick succession, she said, she was fired or replaced on several of the projects she had lined up.
During this time, Vidya said on Ranvirullah Badiya’s podcast, she would go to a temple near her home and vent her frustrations. She said, “In three years, there’s been one movie where I was literally fired after shooting for a week. There were two movies that were shelved halfway through, and there were nine more that I was replaced with. It was a very difficult time. I’m an original person.” So much, and I was sad.”
She continued, “I had these conversations with God. I had this Sai Baba Mandir near my house in Chembur, and I would go there when no one was there at night. I would sit there and talk to Baba, and say, ‘Why are you hanging a carrot in front of me, then Was that what you were going to do?”
When asked if her faith was put to the test, Vidya answered yes. She reveals that she had already begun to believe she was jinxed, when she was first dropped from an ad film, after having about 70 outlandish commercials under her belt. She said that she also worked with Irfan on an anthology show, but only the episode that didn’t air. But she admitted that this was an important experience for her, because without it, she wouldn’t be where she is now. “I was really put through the competition,” she said, “to figure out who I am first.”
Vidya is now among the most respected actors of her generation. She has given famous performances in movies like The Dirty Picture, No One Killed Jessica, Sherni and Jalsa. She will next appear in the murder mystery thriller intentionsis scheduled to hit theaters on Friday.
