Chelsea defender Reece James has posted a touching message to Mason Mount following his move to Manchester United.

The English duo rose through the youth ranks together at Cobham before becoming blues stars. However, they will now separate for the first time in their club career.

Mount joined Manchester United from Chelsea in a deal worth an additional £55m plus £5m. James posted a message to his longtime friend and colleague on Instagram:

“Oh bro man. Where do I start. I’ve known you for 6 years, we grew up together and took similar paths into the first team. Something that seemed almost impossible.”

James followed up by telling his former co-worker how proud he was to make his family. He hinted at their time playing together at Stamford Bridge:

“I’m proud to say I did it alongside you. I saw you as a little kid and watched you evolve into the man and player you are today, you made yourself and your family proud. Some of the best days of our careers together that will be with me forever.”

The Chelsea right-back is sad to see Mount leave but knows he will always be blue at heart:

“It is so sad to say goodbye. I wish you nothing but happiness, good health and the best of luck on your new adventure! You will always be blue at heart!”

The duo were part of the Chelsea squad that won the UEFA Champions League in 2021. They’ve been together for a long time in west London and James’ letter says a lot about their friendship. Mount responded on the right back in the comments:

“Brother from day one you shared so many memories together! So proud of you, thank you RJ.”

Mason Mount’s departure left a bad taste with many associated with the Stamford Bridge outfit. The England international has made 195 appearances across competitions, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists.

Mason Mount is now taking on a new challenge in his career and he will do so at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag. He signed a five-year contract with Manchester United and was handed the famous number 7 shirt.

The England midfielder has admitted leaving Stamford Bridge has been difficult but he is excited to join the Red Devils. He told the club’s official website:

“It’s not easy to leave the club I grew up with, but Manchester United will offer an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know what a strong team I’ve joined, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s campaign to win major trophies.”

Mason Mount has great shoes to fill in the number 7 shirt. However, Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail claims Ten Hag offered him the shirt to show his eagerness to sign him.

The England international rejected Liverpool and Arsenal’s interest in joining the Red Devils. He joins the Manchester United squad of winners such as Casemiro, Raphael Varane and Bruno Fernandes.
