Detroit – Ford MotorSecond-quarter sales were up 9.9% from a year earlier, driven by strong sales gains for its F-Series trucks.

The Detroit automaker on Thursday reported sales of 531,662 vehicles from April through June, up from poor results for 483,688 cars and trucks that were saddled with supply chain problems in the year-ago period.

Ford F-Series truck sales jumped 34% during the second quarter compared to a year earlier, including sales of an all-electric version of the F-150 that more than doubled to 4,466 units sold.

Overall Ford Truck sales, a key driver of the company’s earnings, were up 23% in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2022. All-new Super Duty trucks and higher production of other models helped drive that gain. He said.

“Ford has been the best-selling brand and truck for six consecutive months this year on the strength of the F Series, pickup trucks, our new Escape and the F-150 Lightning,” said Andrew Fricke, vice president of Sales, Distribution and Trucks at Ford. , in the current situation. “EV sales continue to grow. An influx of improved Mustang Mach-E inventory began at the end of the second quarter following our factory retooling earlier this year, which helped Mustang Mach-E sales climb 110% in June.”

However, Ford’s EV sales for the quarter fell 2.8%, to 14,843 vehicles, as supplies of the Mach-E were short amid an overhaul of the plant that makes the EV. Ford renovated that plant to increase Mach-E production during the quarter, as part of a larger plan to dramatically increase electric vehicle production and turn a profit from its EV business by the end of 2026.

Ford’s electric vehicle sales are still small for the time being: Electric vehicles accounted for only 2.8% of the company’s total sales during the second quarter, while conventional internal combustion engines accounted for nearly 91% of sales. Hybrid cars account for 6.5% of sales.
