The outreach program in the Union Territory comes amid the ongoing border dispute between Indian and Chinese forces at a number of friction points in eastern Ladakh.
The Indian Navy said on Thursday that it has embarked on a multidimensional awareness program for Ladakh, especially to ensure greater participation of youths from the union territory in the defense services. As part of the programme, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar will host various outreach activities on July 6-7 in Leh.
The outreach program in the Union Territory comes amid the ongoing border dispute between Indian and Chinese forces at a number of friction points in eastern Ladakh.
“Continuing to pursue the national leadership’s vision towards developing the hinterland, the Indian Navy has embarked on a multi-dimensional outreach program dedicated to enhancing communication with the Union Territory of Ladakh,” said the Navy.
“This program aims to promote greater participation of youth from Ladakh in defense services, promote nation-building and enhance maritime awareness in the region,” it said in a statement. The events to be held in Ladakh include a marine band performance, a friendly football match, and off road expedition on bike and car, among others.
“All Ladakh Navy personnel from various naval stations also participate in these events and share their rich experiences and success stories to encourage the youth to participate in greater numbers, towards nation building as well as joining the Indian Navy,” the navy said. .
Admiral Kumar will also visit the Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier PD Mishra (retired), and will lay a wreath at the war memorial. The Indian Navy carried out similar outreach activities in the northeast last year.
