Besides the school uniform, the children attending public schools will also be given one set of shoes and two sets of socks. The state Department of School Education made the announcement through a Government Resolution (GR) on Thursday.

Along with two sets of uniforms, shoes and socks will be provided by the School Management Committee (SMC) for grades 1-8.

According to GR, which states that 82.92core is budgeted for purposes, he adds, “This takes into account Rs 170 per student for one set of shoes and two sets of socks.” In addition to this, GR also approves a sum of Rs 600 per student for two sets of uniforms.

Maharashtra School Principals Association spokesperson Mahendra Ghanpaul said, “GR brings clarity to the uniform policy.

While one set of uniforms has already been offered by SMC, the new GR is making extra money for a second uniform as well, along with shoes and socks. So far, in the government-run Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools, all girls have been provided with uniforms. In the case of boys, only those coming from the reserved categories who fall below the poverty line were covered. Now all children will benefit from the service.

The state Department of School Education in April made the decision to put in place new uniforms for all students in government-run schools, for classes 1 through 8. But before this could be finalized, the SMC uniforms were ready, as per prevailing practice. This led to a new announcement by the government that the SMC would provide one set of uniforms and the state would supply another set that would be used for “Scouting and Guiding” subjects. According to the new GR, the second set of uniforms will also be provided by SMC now.

However, given the cost per student (170 rupees) allocated for a set of shoes along with two sets of socks, a few teachers raised concerns about the quality of the product.
