KyivOn Thursday, the mayor of Lviv said that three people were killed after a rocket hit an apartment building in the western city of Lviv.
Russia regularly bombs Ukraine with missiles, artillery and drones, often resulting in painful blackouts that have prevented people from heating their homes or getting drinking water.
But the Lviv region – hundreds of kilometers from the front lines – was largely peaceful.
A Russian missile hit a “direct hit on a residential building” in the city of Lviv Governor Maxim Kozitsky In a video posted to Telegram.
Mayor Lviv Andrey Sadovy He wrote in one of the blogs that the strike left “three dead already”.
The missile caused a fire that has been put out, Kosicetsky said, adding that emergency services are on the scene and rescuers are “sorting out the rubble.”
A separate video posted by Kozytski showed a multi-storey building with part of the top floor destroyed.
“So far, the rubble is being dismantled. Of course, there will be injured and dead.”
“We are doing everything we can to save people.”
Eight people were injured and “about 60 apartments” were damaged. Sadovyi He said.
“The windows are broken, many cars are damaged, about 50 cars… There may be more people under the rubble,” he said in a Telegram.
Earlier, he warned that “several” missiles “are moving in the direction of the western regions,” citing the command of the ukrainian air force.
Sadovi earlier said on Telegram that a “chain of explosions” had been heard and warned residents to stay in shelters.
He added that one person was in a “serious” condition and was taken to hospital.
Unverified videos posted to Telegram purporting to show the aftermath of the attack showed shattered glass strewn across the floor of what appeared to be a dormitory.
Another video showed doors removed from their hinges and debris on the floor.
It was not clear if the videos showed the same blow.
On June 20, Lviv suffered a major Russian drone attack on Kiev and other cities.
Russia has launched waves of drone and missile strikes across Ukraine since the invasion in February 2022.
Ukraine has recently strengthened its air defense systems with weapons provided by the West, and the number of Russian missiles and drones that penetrate them has dwindled.
But a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ignat, recently said that the newly provided systems are still not enough to cover the entire country.
