Steve Smith caught his 100th Test catch during the first day of the Third Ashes Test underway at Headingley, Leeds on Thursday, 6 July. This came after the right-handed batsman made a clear ‘nick’ from the bat which he carried to England bouncer Johnny. Bairstow off Stuart Broad.

The incident occurred on the 25th when Broad’s ball fell from a distance and Smith failed to get behind the delivery line. The ball kissed the edge of the bat before Bairstow completed the easy catch. Smith, in complete disbelief, quickly took a check, but replays showed he had outdone it. The Australian vice-captain was booed by the crowd.
