In a horrific incident, England manager Brendon McCollum was denied entry to Headingley in Leeds ahead of the Third Ashes Test on the first day on Thursday (6 July).

According to The Times, McCollum did not have the correct pass to enter the stadium. Interestingly, the legendary New Zealand cricketer was not recognized by security and even argued over his entry. This came despite someone accompanying McCollum speaking to the security guard about the importance of having the coach in the dressing room.

The guard contacts his boss for advice over the radio as to entry. McCollum, though, lost his composure and walked through the gates, saying:

“You just have to deal with it.”

Besides being the England coach, McCollum captained New Zealand to the 2015 World Cup Final. The Blackcaps batsman represented the Blackcaps in 101 Tests, 260 ODIs and 71 T20Is, amassing 14,676 runs, including 19 centuries and 76 half-centuries.

He captained New Zealand in 31 Tests, 62 ODIs and 28 T20Is and won 11, 36 and 13 matches respectively.

In England, McCollum played 19 ODIs, ten Tests and nine T20Is for the Kiwis during his illustrious career, including three Tests at Headingley.

Australia took a 142-run lead in the Third Ashes Test

Decent batting performances from Usman Khawaja (43) and Marnos Labouchagny (33) helped Australia finish at 116-4 at Stumps on day two, with Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh at the crease.

Moeen Ali hit two wickets for the hosts, while Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes hit one each.

Earlier, after Australia had been required to bat first, Mitchell Marsh’s run-a-ball 118 helped the tourists to 263.

Mark Wood emerged as England’s bowlers choice, returning with figures of 5-34. Meanwhile, Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad have taken three wickets in succession.

In reply, a clinical bowling performance from Australian captain Pat Cummins helped Australia beat England for 237 to take a 26-run first innings lead, despite Ben Stokes scoring 80 from 108. Cummins finished with sensational figures of 6-91 while Mitchell Stark sacked two from two wickets.

Australia lead the five-game Ashes series, 2-0.
