The accused is the driver of an electronic vehicle and was a neighbor of the family whose three members were killed

Today, Saturday, the police said, a 46-year-old man from Salem Al-Tabri area has been arrested here for allegedly killing three family members with a hammer for disturbing them to have a child.

Ludhiana police said the accused Robin alias Munna was a neighbour of the family and the incident took place on Thursday.

Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu told reporters here that the victims are a woman, her husband and her mother-in-law. The incident appeared on Friday morning.

Munna, an e-rickshaw driver, was upset that Surinder Kaur was teasing him about having a baby and sought treatment. The officer said he was offended that Kaur was raising the issue in front of his wife.

On Thursday morning, Sidhu said, Munna, in a fit of rage, attacked Kaur (around 70), her husband, Chaman Lal (75), and mother-in-law (around 90) with a hammer and beat them to death.

Police said after his arrest, Munna showed no sign of remorse. He also demanded that his wife be arrested, because, as they said, there was no one to take care of her after him.

The CP said Munna had confessed to the crime.

To make the crime look like an accident, the police said, Munna opened the valve of a cooking gas cylinder and lit an incense stick until the room caught fire and all evidence was destroyed.

The police seized a bag containing a camera and a mobile phone for one of the victims from the city of Mina. They added that the weapon used in the crime was also seized.

Police said the hammer, when examined under an ultraviolet light, had bloodstains on it.

The incident appeared on Friday morning, when the milkman alerted the neighbors that the victims’ house was locked from the inside, and no one responded, they said. The milkman told the police that no one opened the door of the house on Thursday either.

Police said neighbors scaled the front wall and entered the house to find all three family members dead.

Police said Kaur and Lal’s four children work abroad.
