A woman fell from the third floor balcony of her home in Govindpuri, southeast Delhi, while trying to flee from her husband, who allegedly physically assaulted her, officers said on Friday.
Police said they received a PCR call on 5 July around 11.15pm regarding the incident. When a police team rushed to the site, it was discovered that the injured woman had already been taken to the hospital.
Rajesh Deo DCP (South East) said in the initial investigation, it was revealed that the woman had fallen from the third floor. Bloodstains were found on the apartment, staircase and roof.
The police team then arrived at Al-Mazydiya Hospital, where the injured woman was admitted due to a head injury. Meanwhile, the woman’s husband, who was hiding in the building, was arrested while trying to escape. “His clothes were stained with blood and his hand was bleeding profusely,” said one of the officers.
Upon inquiry, the husband said that he and his wife had been married for about 20 days.
On July 5, at around 10:30 pm, they had an argument and he allegedly hit his wife on the head with a casserole and bowl. He also said he was injured when she defended herself. In order to escape, the woman ran towards the porch of the house and fell to the ground.”
