Italian giants Juventus have reportedly been given a golden opportunity to secure two outcasts from the ranks of Barcelona this summer.
It’s no secret that the Blaugrana sweat to downsize their squad to make it easier to get their priority targets. According to SPORT (via Barca Universal), the Catalans are poised to offload Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet as the pair have been linked with Italy’s Juventus.
Having recently returned from a loan spell at Tottenham, Barcelona continue to look for ways to facilitate Lenglet’s departure and he has been offered a contract with Juventus.
Last summer, Lenglet left the Camp Nou for his long spell at Tottenham. The Frenchman has enjoyed plenty of action on the pitch with the Lilywhites, making 26 appearances in the Premier League.
Despite this, Xavi Hernandez has no plans for Lenglet next season. With their sights set on a defender to enrich and deepen their squad, Juventus may bite.
Barcelona’s Eric Garcia also proposed to the old lady. The Spanish defender looks set to be out as his playing time is likely to drop following the arrival of Inigo Martinez. Garcia is said to not be keen on packing his bags, after a season in which he made 24 appearances in La Liga.
In their mission to reduce the wage bill, which has included terminating Samuel Umtiti’s contract, Barcelona are preparing for more departures, with GarcÃa and Lenglet next on the chopping block.
Barcelona continue to search for heir Sergio Busquets as they remove the Southampton prodigy from their radar
Barcelona continue to search for a suitable successor to club icon Sergio Busquets, with high-profile names such as Joshua Kimmich and Martin Zubemendi linked with the La Liga giants.
At the same time, they are exploring short-term and economically viable options such as Oriol Romeu, who is said to cost just €8m this summer.
Another fresh face who has appeared in Barcelona’s search for a new defensive midfielder this summer is Romeo Lafia. Florian Plettenberg (via Barca Universal) reports that the Catalan giants have expressed interest in recruiting the Southampton prodigy following his impressive performances last season.
With 29 league appearances under his belt, the 19-year-old’s success story also includes a first-time call-up to the Belgium national team earlier this year.
According to Plettenberg, Barcelona have had Lafia in the crosshairs this summer. However, the Catalans had to hold back because the asking price for the young talent was a huge sum. Plettenberg confirms that the acquisition of Lavia’s services will set the clubs back around £50m this summer.
