Police said on Saturday that a member of Lineman’s team who was working with a power plant in a village in Sonbhadra district was arrested for allegedly forcing a 21-year-old Dalit to lick shoes and squat. The accident occurred when the young man was trying to check the electrical wires in the house of one of his relatives and the lineman arrived at the scene.
The accident occurred on 6 July but an FIR was filed on a complaint after a video appeared on the internet. In the video, the complainant allegedly licks the accuser’s shoes and squats in front of him.
Police identified the accused as Tejbali Singh Patel, who was booked under section 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 504 (willful insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The SC/ST Act was also invoked against the defendants.
