West Zone are in the final of Duleep Trophy 2023 after their semi-final against Central Zone at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alor ended in a draw on Saturday 8 July. District advanced based on first-round lead.
West Zone resumed their second innings at 292/9 but were all out after adding five more runs to their total. Yuvrajsinh was Dodia out for 1, and fell to Saranch Jain as Central Zone was set for 390.
Central District was off to a bad start in the chase as holes fell with only 17 home runs on the plate. Himanshu Mantri (4) was the first to go, dismissed by Arzan Naguaswala, while Atit Cheth beat Vivek Singh (9).
Dhruv Goril scored 25 before stumbling to Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, while Rinku Singh hit 40 from 30 balls. Singh hit three fours and a six before being knocked out by Dudia. When the match was called off, Amandeep Kher was batting on 27 and Upendra Yadav on 18.
Southern Zone records a two-wicket win over North Zone in Semi-Final 2 of Duleep Trophy 2023
In the second semi-final of Duleep Trophy 2023, South Zone defeated North Zone by two wickets at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Set to chase 215, Southern District resumed the day at 21/0. Vaibhav Arora kept the bowling side in pursuit, dismissing Sai Sudharsan for 17 and Ravikumar Samarth for 5. A third wicket stand of 59 between Mayank Agarwal (54) and captain Hanuma Vihari (43), however, put South Zone in command.
After dismissing experienced hitters, Ricky Bhuy (34) and Tilak Varma (25) also made hand-to-hand contributions. However, neither of them was left to take the southern region across the line. The chasing side suffered some ups and downs as Washington Sundar (2) and KV Sasikanth (9) both perished, leaving Southern on 213/8.
Northern Zone slowed the game down considerably near the end, but couldn’t stop South Zone from going over as Sai Kishore (15*) slammed two sixes, one of which sealed the win for his side.
South Zone will now face West Zone in the final of Duleep Trophy 2023 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium from 12-16 July.
