The drugs were seized while the offenders were unloading the drugs from their car to their rented accommodation at Nehru Junction in the state capital’s Pallithura district, an excise officer said.
In a major drug bust, excise officials seized 155 kilograms of cannabis and 61 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), a synthetic drug from a car and a house in Ballithora here on Sunday and arrested four men accused of bringing the drugs into Kerala from Visakhapatnam. in Andhra Pradesh.
An excise officer said the drugs were confiscated while the offenders were unloading the drugs from their car to their rented accommodation at Nehru junction in the state capital’s Pallithura district.
The officer, who gave details of the case, said that the four accused went to Visakhapatnam by land to buy the drugs, after which two of them returned by air while the other two returned the drugs by land in their car.
The officer said the excise department was aware of the increasing incidence of drug trafficking in coastal areas, and as part of the nearly month-long investigation into it, the agency received classified information about the transportation of hashish from Visakhapatnam by land.
“We followed the car as Kerala entered all the way to their house and when they started unloading it, we caught them in the act. About 133 kg of hashish was seized from their car. The rest was seized from their house,” the officer told the agency.
He indicated that the raid and the subsequent confiscation and arrests took place in the afternoon and the related procedures are still ongoing.
He added that any involvement of others, in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, would only be revealed after continuous questioning of the four accused, aged between 21 and 34.
