The application conveyed by real estate tycoon Sushil Ansal requested the necessary directions to unseal the premises of Uphaar Cinemas located in Green Park Extension here.

The Delhi court has sought a response from the Association of Uphaar Tragedy Victims (AVUT) to a request by real estate tycoon Sushil Ansal, convicted in the 1997 Uphaar cinema fire case, to rescind the closure of the cinema premises.

Chief District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg directed AVUT President Neelam Krishnamoorthy to file a response by July 25, when the court will hear the matter again.

During a hearing on July 7, the court noted the application made by the CBI attorney, who said he “has no objection to returning the theater to the plaintiff.” The application has sought directions to remove the seal from the premises of Uphaar Cinemas located in Green Park Extension here.

The Supreme Court on April 27 allowed Ansal Theaters and Club Hotels Private Ltd, whose directors were former property barons Sushil Ansal and Gopal Ansal, to move the trial court to close the Uphaar cinema hall where 59 moviegoers lost their lives. In a fire in 1997.
