The Karnataka Brain Health Initiative, which was launched as a pilot project in January 2022 to address the shortage of doctors and facilities to treat neurological diseases, to cover the entire state, was announced in the budget submitted on Friday. “After successful implementation of the pilot, it will be expanded to the whole state in hub-and-talk model at a cost of Rs 25 crore,” said Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister.
Another important budget announcement for the health sector relates to the establishment of the Karnataka Digital Health Association in order to implement the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and all other digital initiatives of the Health Department. Furthermore, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences will establish a new medical college in Kanakapura taluk in Ramanagara district. Siddaramaiah announced that Rs 155 crore will be provided for the operation of tertiary hospitals and burn care centers in Mysuru, Kalaburaghi and Bilagavi districts.
Rs 450 crore has been allocated for the ongoing construction work of the medical colleges and hospitals under the medical colleges. “In the current year, construction work of 450-bed hospitals in Gadag, Kupala, Karwar and Kodagu districts will be completed on priority,” he said. Rs. 92 crore has been allocated to increase the number of dialysis centers in the state from 172 to 219. Rs. 70 crore has also been allocated for purchasing equipment and starting up community health centres.
