Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Man directed district administrations across the state to sound alert in low-lying areas and on river banks amid high rain. Directions have been issued for ministers, State Department officials and other officials to reach people in their areas and provide assistance.
The District Collectors (DC) and Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) were also ordered to expedite relief work in the field.
Mann pleaded with people not to go out of their homes to do non-essential work. Mann said he had been monitoring the situation as flood-like conditions due to heavy rain continued for two days.
A government spokesman said the alert had already been sounded in low-lying areas and on the banks of the river.
Meanwhile, Patiala DC Sakshi Sawhney appealed to residents to vacate their homes in low-lying areas especially near Badi Nadi.
