The England Under-21 national team has been crowned champions of the European Under-21 Championship. Fans reacted on Twitter when the England junior team beat Spain 1-0 in the final of the competition.
The Three Lions boasted some well-known names in their ranks. Players familiar to fans included the likes of Levi Colwell, Curtis Jones, Cole Palmer, Emil Smith Rowe, Harvey Elliott and Noni Madwick.
In fact, Jones scored the winner. The Liverpool player scored in stoppage time in the first half. His goal proved to be the ultimate winner. Palmer’s free kick deflected Jones into the net.
While Spain also had the likes of Alex Baena, Arnau Tenas, Gabri Veiga and others in their ranks, La Roja fell short of an equalizer despite shooting more on target.
They had one last penalty, too. However, James Trafford pulled off a heroic double save to help his country to victory. The Three Lions won the European Under-21 Championship without conceding a goal.
Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter as England beat Spain in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final:
Levi Colwell was fantastic against Spain in the UEFA European Under-21 Final and, frankly, this guy is a footballer and could easily become England’s captain in the future.

Levi Colwell will be England’s number one playmaker next summer at Euro 2024. Not Harry Maguire.

James Trafford Saves!
James Trafford has never conceded a goal in the U21 European Championship, he just saved a penalty kick in the final in the 90th + 6th minute… 🥶 twitter.com/Squawka_Live/s…
He has not conceded a goal in all competitions, has a penalty to save with the last kick in the final and produces a ludicrous double save as the England Under-21s win their first trophy since 1984. The balls are on James Trafford. great.
Mauricio Pochettino talks about England Under-21 stars Noni Madueki and Levi Colwell.
Levi Colwell and Noni Madueki were both important parts of the England squad that won the European Under-21 Championship. Colwell had spent the previous season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, Madueki joined from Eindhoven in January 2023.
Pochettino said he was familiar with Madueki because he was part of the Tottenham academy. He also had a conversation with Colwell.
Speaking about the pair, the new Chelsea boss said (via Metro):
“Yes, we spoke yesterday (Thursday) with Levi and Noni. Someone I know – Noni – from Tottenham, was in the under-18s. And of course Levi I know but I introduced myself with him. I wish all the best for tomorrow (in the U-21 European Championship final) It is true that it is difficult for me because Spain is against England, but I wish them all the best.”
The Argentine added:
“I think we’re waiting for them to be with the team. I think the day we fly to America, they’ll join us.”
Shortly after helping England to glory in the final, the pair are expected to join Chelsea’s pre-season tour. Both players can be expected to be key members of the Chelsea squad under Pochettino.
