India’s women created a clinical effort to beat Bangladesh women by seven wickets in Mirpur on Sunday in the first T20I of the three-match series.

In the first place after winning the toss, India took Bangladesh with 114/5. The visitors chased down the target in 16.2 overs as captain Harmanpreet Kaur achieved an unbeaten half-century.

Bangladesh got off to a good start with the bat as Chethi Rani (22 off 26) and Shamima Sultana (17 off 13) added 27 runs for the opening wicket. The partnership was broken when debutant Minu Mane (1/21) dismissed Sultana. Then Pooja Vastrakar cleaned Rani. The Indians choked the hosts with figures of 1/16th, which also included a virgin.

Bangladesh suffered a massive setback when skipper Nigar Sultana (2) was run out after a terrible mix-up with Sabhana Mostari. The latter struggled for 23 off 33 balls and was eventually cleared off the bowling of Chafali Firma. Ritu Moni (11 of 13) also lost the penultimate innings handoff, while Shurna Aktar remained unbeaten in a round of 28.

For India, while Vastrakar, Mani and Shafali claimed one wicket each, Deepti Sharma conceded just 14 runs in her four overs. Left-arm rookie Bareddy Anusha was also economical, giving up just 24 runs in four overs.

Harmanpreet and Mandana lead India’s chase against Bangladesh

Chasing 115, India lost Shafali for a duck as she was trapped lbw by Marufa Akter. Jemima Rodrigues (11) then hit a long ball from Sultana Khatun to her stump. However, a 70-wicket third-wicket stand between top batsmen Smriti Mandhana (38 out of 34) and Harmanpreet (54* out of 35), paved the way for India’s victory.

Mandana hit five overs before he was stumped on Sultana Khatun’s bowling. She was hit in the air as she walked down the track to receive the handoff. India’s captain Harmanpreet hit a four-six six to lead the team past the finish line.

The aggressive hitter brought victory in style, crushing Khatun for six and four consecutive shots. The cap also saw Harmanpreet reach its half-century mark.
