19-year-old girl missing while returning from college found dead in canal, investigations ongoing

The body of a 19-year-old girl, who went missing on Friday, has been found floating in a canal in Kannauj.

The girl had disappeared while returning from college in Terwa district on Friday afternoon.

Police said the girl, who resides in a village belonging to Thattia Police Station, was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in a girls’ education college in Tirwa district.

“When she did not return home until noon, her family members tried to contact her on her mobile phone, but to no avail,” said a police official.

The girl’s parents called her friends, who said that she had left home after the exam. The family members started looking for her in the surrounding areas. When they fail to track her down, they inform the police. On Saturday, her body was found floating in a canal on the outskirts of the village.

Officer Terwa Shiv Pratap Singh and the in-charge of Thattya Vikram Singh Police Station arrived on the spot and initiated investigations.

The police seized the body and sent it for an autopsy. They have interrogated some suspects in this regard.

Shiv Pratap Singh said: “Investigations are underway and further action will be taken on the basis of a complaint and an autopsy report.”
