India’s Priyansh has become world under-21 champion in compound shooting, as the country’s medal tally swells to nine, including five golds here.

Brianch defeated Slovenia’s Aljaz Brink 147-141 in the men’s U-21 singles one-sided final of the World Youth Shooting Championships being held here on Saturday.

Earlier, Aditi Swamy beat Lynn Drake of the United States 142-136 to win the women’s under-18 title.

Priyansh had an intense opening run as former U-18 world champion Brink tied India’s 29th all-out, shooting two arrows close to the target.

The checkered Brianch came up with a perfect round of 30 as the Slovenian crumbled under the pressure after a promising start in the first end.
From a three-point advantage after the second end, Priyansh continued to build on his lead and was leading 118-112 heading into the fifth and final round.

The pair finished as they started, shooting 29 each which was enough for Priyansh to win the U21 world title in the compound division.

After breaking the women’s under-18 qualifier record at the World Cup last month, Aditi carried the momentum for the ongoing World Youth Championships when she defeated Lin.

Aditi dominated the competition from the first finish, taking a five-point lead at the halfway mark and winning India’s fourth gold medal of the tournament.
Making her World Cup debut, Aditi won the bronze medal in Medellin, Colombia last month.

Aditi also won an individual silver medal at the 3rd AFC Asian Cup in Sharjah last year.

India’s hope of a third medal evaporated on Saturday when Avneet Kaur fell to Haley Bolton of Great Britain in the first leg.

Finishing tied for 138 goals, Hali outclassed the Indian 10-9 in a penalty shootout.

India has so far won nine medals, including one silver and three bronze.
