The victims were on their way to Srikalahasti Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple when their car was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction.
Police said six people were killed in a road accident in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh state on Sunday.
The accident occurred when an SUV collided with a truck near Mittakandriga in Srikalahasti, killing six people – four women and two men – who were traveling in the vehicle instantly.
Another person was injured. He was admitted to Srikalahasti District Hospital.
Seven people were traveling in a four-wheel drive vehicle from Tirupati to Srikalahasti after a darshan at Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala. Police said the victims came from Vijayawada in NTR district. The dead were identified as Ramesh, Narasimha Moorthy, Rajyalakshmi, Srilatha, Akshaya and Venkata Ramama.
Police said the victims were traveling to the Srikalahasti Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple when their car collided with the truck, which was in the opposite direction, near Mittakandriga. It is said that excessive speed led to the accident.
The police registered a case and opened an investigation.
