Australian skipper Pat Cummins gave his side a massive finish in the form of Joe Root just before lunch on day four of the ongoing Ashes Test at Headingley, Leeds, on Sunday.

The England star batsman seemed a little out of sorts throughout his innings and found it difficult to time the ball well. His share eventually summed up his frustrating stay at the crease as he was caught by Alex Curry’s man.

Pat Cummins threw a length back delivery and Joe Root attempted to spin behind square leg. However, the ball seemed to slip a bit after pitching and did not bounce as much as Root had expected. The batter could only carry it to Curry, who completed a very simple catch.

Here’s a video of root flushing after making a 21 catch of 33 balls:

England put their noses in front despite Australia’s batting

While the Australians managed to pick up four wickets, England would be the side most pleased with the way things turned out for them in the first session on the fourth day. Zak Crawley looked to bat positively in the first hour and got the hosts to keep going though. Losing a few shares at the other end.

The change of ball seemed to help Australia as Crowley was dismissed almost immediately. However, Harry Brook looked confident out of the crease and continued to score points at a high pace. He is currently unbeaten at 40* and has captain Ben Stokes at the other end.

With only 98 more runs needed, the hosts will fantasize about their chances of winning the Headingley Test. However, Australia will know that two wickets immediately after lunch will ensure they can be good all over England. It will be interesting to see if the visitors use their barrage of short balls early in the second session in an effort to cause a batting breakdown.
