UFC 290 capped off the International Fight Week festivities at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Despite losing in a very encouraging match between Jack Della Maddalena and Josiah Harrell at the last minute, the event turned out to be a very cold one.
The card was headlined by a Featherweight title unification bout between Aleksandar Volkanowski and Jair Rodriguez. While ‘El Pantera’ had a few moments in the fight, Volkanovski once again proved himself one of the best in the world with a 3rd round TKO victory.
Alexander Pantoja challenged Brandon Moreno for the UFC flyweight title in the co-main event of the night. While Moreno took more damage on his feet, the “cannibals” grappled over the Mexican to a controversial win.
Dricus Du Plessis faced former champion Robert Whitaker in a middleweight title eliminator at UFC 290. “Stillknocks” scored a shocking upset, managing to knock Whitaker down with a barrage of blows in the second round.
Dan Hooker scored an impressive come-from-behind win over Jalen Turner in the Barnburner Absolute.
She opened the lead in collegiate wrestling main card action by scoring a first-round knockdown on short notice replacement Val Woodburn.
Robbie Lawler performed his final octagonal walk today in his preliminary special bout against Niko Price at UFC 290. The MMA community unanimously lauded a remarkable career as “Ruthless” embodied Price in a fairy tale.
