Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Sunday presided over a meeting of civil and police officers to review arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. Sinha said he also discussed the ongoing efforts to restore traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway which was closed due to landslides in several places due to rains.

He chaired a meeting with civil administration and police officials to review the ongoing arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra after bad weather disrupted the pilgrimage for two days. “He ordered the officials to ensure all possible assistance, accommodation and food arrangements for the pilgrims,” he said in a series of tweets after the late-night evening meeting.

The movement of the Eletra River resumed earlier on Sunday after landslides caused by heavy rains over the past two days were cleared.

Directed to make optimal use of the main camps and to enhance medical facilities for pilgrims. “The pilgrims and the public will be informed about the weather and the state of the yatra in real time,” Sinha said.

He said that the necessary men and materials will be placed at the key sites for timely measures and road maintenance. Directing officials to continuously monitor the situation and take the necessary steps without delay.

The meeting also discussed the use of Mughal Road and other alternative routes for traffic. The J&K department is coordinating with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI on the early restoration of the damaged stretch.”
