Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva slammed AAP President Arvind Kejriwal for campaigning while the city was suffering from waterlogged roads and traffic amid heavy rains
Bharatiya Janata Party Delhi on Monday protested near AAP office at DDU Marg here against the inconvenience caused to people due to severe waterlogging on several roads and extending across the city.
Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Virendra Sachdeva alleged a “scam” in removing water from drains in the city.
“It is evident that the drains were not cleaned and the budget allocated to them was misappropriated as the roads, colonies and markets of the city were flooded,” he said.
There was no immediate reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party to the protest and the Saffron Party’s allegations.
Sachdeva, addressing the protesters, also attacked AAP organizer and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for political campaigning while the city was battling massive water inundation and traffic chaos.
Yesterday when Delhi was struggling with waterlogging, Kejriwal was campaigning in Panchkula in Haryana. He should be ashamed of making people face traffic jams and waterlogging. I have never witnessed such chaos in Delhi… as evident across the city in the past two days,” he said.
The national capital had the most rainfall (153 mm) in a single day in July since 1982 in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The city received an additional 107 mm of precipitation in the subsequent 24 hours, exacerbating the situation.
BJP protesters who were trying to march from the ITO towards the AAP office were stopped at a roadblock by the Delhi Police, Delhi Police. Security forces arrested those who tried to cross the checkpoint.
The BJP Delhi chief said the city was overwhelmed by the AAP’s management of the government and control of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). Delhi Assembly Opposition Leader Ramveer Singh Biduri has also criticized the Kejriwal government and demanded a high-level investigation into allegations of corruption in bank liquidations.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party is calling for a high profile investigation into the embezzlement of Rs 3,000 crore for the removal of water from the drains,” he said. MCD opposition leader Raja Iqbal Singh said the people of Delhi now realize that the former BJP-ruled corporation had ensured minimum waterlogging and maximum cleanliness despite financial constraints.
The AAP won the MCD elections last year, ending the BJP’s control of the previous civic bodies of nearly 15 years.
