Hundreds of women — including Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and McKayla Maroney — have accused Nassar of sexually assaulting them during his more than two-decade career.
The Bureau of Prisons (BoP) declined to confirm on “privacy” grounds that Nassar had been attacked, but in response to an inquiry about him said an “inmate” was assaulted at 2:35 pm Sunday at Coleman Prison and taken to a local hospital.
“Responding personnel immediately initiated life-saving measures,” the People’s Bank said in a statement. Staff called for emergency medical services and life-saving efforts continued.
“The FBI has been notified, and the internal investigation is ongoing,” the People’s Bank said.
Nassar’s victims reached a $380 million settlement with USA Gymnastics in 2021, one of the largest ever recorded for a sexual assault victim.
USA Gymnastics filed for bankruptcy in 2018 after a wave of allegations against Nassar swept the organization.
Michigan State University reached a $500 million settlement with hundreds of Nassar’s victims in 2018.
The prison where Nassar is serving his sentence is a maximum security facility and currently holds 1,214 offenders, according to BoP Magazine.
Rojas, the union official for prisons, said the prison was currently experiencing an “acute staffing crisis”.
