Rivalry between lead male actors is not uncommon in the world of Indian cinema, be it Bollywood or regional films. Bhojpuri actor and politician Ravi Kishan recently opened up about his long-running rivalry with Manoj Tiwari. Now, Manoj has opened up about their rivalry and talks about the incident when Ravi refused to be beaten by him in a movie.
Comparing their rivalry to the famous SRK and Salman Khan dynamic, Manoj explained during an interview with Aap Ki Adalat, “We were both actors in the same industry. So, in this scenario, it’s only natural to be a little bit competitive. Everyone wants to perform better than the other. Toh aap samajh lijiye Salman Khan-Shah Rukh Khan Jo hain, vaisa hi hai. (It’s the same as Salman Shah Rukh)”.
Manoj and Ravi have shared the screen in many Bhojpuri films. However, their feud came to a head when Ravi, who played the role of the perpetrator, refused to be defeated by Manoj, who portrayed a policeman in the film.
Explaining the incident, Manoj said:Ace sub mamal min bahut badmash tae woo. She first appeared in films after him. The only difference was that when he used to star in a film, the producer earned Rs 3-4 lakh and when she starred in a film, the producer earned Rs 40 crores. By the time I joined the industry, it had gone big and movies were being made on a big budget. This particular movie was being made on a big budget. Now, in the movie, I play the inspector, you portray the character of the perpetrator. I look for you the whole movie and at the end when I find you, I naturally hit you.”
He continued, “Now, the scene given to us says that the policeman has to hit the perpetrator a lot. But he said I also want to hit him. Then the director came to me and told me to ask him to add some scenes of him hitting me. But it didn’t make sense to me, I was standing in a place the incident with a full police force, toh mujhe kaise mar sakte hai (How does he beat me?). my sp (high ranking police officer) bana tha usmein (I was playing SP). I told the director, “SP is going to look like an idiot in the movie.”
Discussing Ravi’s mentality, Manoj said, “Ravi signed on for the film, but at the time of shooting, he felt that Manoj Tiwari was not the one to beat him.”
Previously, while appearing on Aap Ki Adalat, Ravi Kishan also mentioned the same incident, admitting that he considered Manoj a rival. He said, “I used to look at him as a competitor. The fans don’t want me to be submissive. The fans don’t like watching their champ lose to the other guy.”
Ravi said it was an “ego struggle” between them at the time and that they are over now. Today, we share a laugh when we talk about this time. We are great friends today and we share so much love for each other.
