He said, “When this issue arose, we thought we should also take the views of the state. Last week we had the conference of food ministers… Except for one state, all the ministers endorsed the Union minister’s opinion that any amount available with the state should be used for the benefit of the entire population, and not for a particular class or class of population in a particular state or region.”
In response to a question about the countries that supported the decision of the center, Chopra named 16 countries: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Nagaland, Manipur, Maharashtra, and Haryana. He said that only Karnataka had requested the policy change.
