The Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees faced off in the rubber game of the final series before halftime, and Cubs coach David Ross was sacked in the bottom of the first. It was one of the fastest hurlings in baseball this season.

Ross was upset at what he thought was a missed call and the realization that the home plate umpire wasn’t actually in good shape. It was a quick ejection after very little controversy. At that point, Ross came out of the dugout and got his money’s worth.

“You got one game before you got a break and you’re already that bad?”

On the broadcast, and likely by most of the fans in the first few lines, Ross was heard tearing up at the verdict:

“You got one game before you got a break and you’re already that bad?”

Ross was pointing out that the umpires only had one game before the All-Star break, so there was no excuse for him to be on such a bad note. He pleaded with them to be better, but they will have to watch and see if they improve from the club.

Ross led the Cubs to a 41-47 record in his fourth season as the club’s manager.

The Chicago Cubs play in the NL Central, and the New York Yankees play in the AL East. This does not lead to a lot of opportunities to run into each other. They have never met in a World Series either.

That’s why it took until 2023 for the Cubs to get their first victory over the Yanks on the road. The two didn’t get along very often, especially since interplay is so popular now.

The Cubs won thanks to Yankees pitcher from the past two seasons, Jameson Tellon, reversing his poor form (nearly a 7.00 ERA) to throw eight shutout innings with one hit allowed.
