About a year after the sexual harassment of a girl, a young woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her father in the town of Gondal in the early hours of Sunday. Hours later, the police detained the girl’s father and arrested him.
According to an FIR released at Gondal town police station, Vijay Patala was allegedly stabbed by a man at around 2 am on Sunday. The accident happened near Char Dukan in Gondal town when Batala was riding pillion on bike driven by his friend Deep Malaviya to reach his home.
According to the FIR, the girl’s father, an auto-rickshaw driver, called out Patala’s name and the two friends pulled over. The motorized rickshaw driver was alleged to have stabbed Batala in the chest and then fled the scene, leaving his rickshaw.
The injured Batala, who was driving a cargo van, was taken to a private hospital and then to a government hospital. But he was pronounced dead on arrival. Based on a complaint filed by Batala’s father, the police booked the auto-rickshaw driver for the murder and arrested him hours later.
Police said the auto-rickshaw driver had filed a complaint against Patala’s and Patala’s friends Akash, Govind, Hitto and others about a year ago, alleging sexual harassment of his daughter.
After his arrest, and during the initial interrogation, the auto-rickshaw driver told the police that he used to get into frequent arguments with Batala. However, in the complaint filed on Sunday, Batala’s father claimed that the autorickshaw driver had filed a false complaint of sexual harassment against his son and others.
