Former ISRO chief Kasturirangan admitted to being treated for an acute illness. Updates on his condition and treatment will be provided as necessary
The hospital treating him said Monday evening that the former ISRO chief and chair of the new education policy drafting committee Kasturirangan had been admitted for treatment of an “acute illness”.
Sources said earlier today that the 83-year-old had suffered a heart attack in Sri Lanka and was taken to Bengaluru for treatment.
“Ex-head of ISRO Dr Kasturirangan has been admitted to Narayana Health City, Bengaluru for treatment for an acute illness. Initial investigations are ongoing and he is being closely monitored and treated by a multidisciplinary team of doctors,” the Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences said in a statement.
“We will provide more details and updates as needed,” she said.
Kasturrangan was formerly Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Chairman of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission. He was a former member of the Rajya Sabha (200309) and a former member of the now defunct Indian Planning Commission.
He also held the position of Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, from April 2004 to 2009.
